Preventing Common Sports Injuries
With every sport come a few injuries. Some are unforeseen, but most injuries are perfectly preventable. In our quest to be bigger, stronger, faster and better, we sometimes forget our own limits, stretching our muscles and ligaments past their breaking point. Learning how to work out correctly, using the right techniques, will go a long way to preventing the most common sports injuries.
The most common sports injuries are strains and sprains
Strains and sprains from your ankles to your elbows remain the most commonly seen sports injuries to date. Most of the injuries happen in our lower body, when you over exert your legs, pulling the muscles or over stretching them causing the muscle fibers and tendons to tear.
Injuries tend to happen when athletes feel they have slacked off a bit in their training. Perhaps a busy work week has kept them away from their daily workout, and once they get back to the box, they pile on a little extra weight, push themselves a little harder and end up with a pulled muscle.
Warm up and stretch before starting your workout of the day
No matter how anxious you are to get in a good training session, always remember to warm up and stretch your muscles. Especially if you’ve been sitting at a desk all week, or the cold weather has made you lazy. Give your muscles a chance to stretch out slowly, giving you a much better advantage once you start the workout of the day.
Work with a trainer who can watch you and make sure your technique is on point and you’re not rushing your movements in an effort to make up for a lazy week.
Some injuries are preventable. Strengthening your core and improving your mobility and flexibility will go a long way to keep your muscles strong so that you can reach new heights in fitness and sport.
