Setting Realistic Fitness Goals for 2016

 In blog

It’s a new year, which means we’re all making new goals for ourselves. Many of those goals revolve around fitness and health. When you are setting goals for yourself, be SMART about it, so that you give yourself a realistic shot at reaching those goals.

Our coaches can help you reach your athletic goals for 2016.

SMART is an excellent tool for setting realistic and attainable athletic (or other) goals for yourself. It stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time. When you set new goals for 2016, make sure it fits into all five categories. The more specific and realistic you are with your goals, the easier they will be to reach. For fitness goals you may want to take into consideration the wise counsel and encouragement of your coaches.

Become a better athlete with gymnastics training

If your goal is to lose weight, for instance, which is a popular one, it’s important to be specific. Losing weight is too general of a concept. If you want to lose weight the SMART way, then you need to set a particular weight loss goal (lose pounds, or reduce body fat, and how much), as well as set a timeline for yourself (three months, six months, etc.)

Having measurable goals and a timeline will help you succeed because there is little room for error. The more specific you make your goals, the easier they will be to attain.

Master the muscle-up with gymnastics training in Colorado

Make 2016 the year you finally master the elusive muscle-up.

Of course, you also have to have a reason for your goal. This is going to be your primary motivator. WHY do you want to lose weight or reduce body fat? How will losing weight help you improve as an athlete? Do you need to lose weight so that you can move faster, jump higher, be stronger, etc.?

Get the support you need to reach your athletic goals

Athletes are always looking to be better, but just being better is an arbitrary goal. Having a strong “why” behind every goal is going to help put pressure on yourself to fight for this objective.

Finally, you need a good support system. Let your teammates, trainers, and coaches in on your athletic goals for 2016. Not only will they help keep you motivated, but they’ll also hold you accountable and force you to be realistic about your progress and whether you are succeeding. A good support system is a key to reaching your goals and becoming a better athlete in any sport.

Share your goals with us in 2016, and we’ll be your support system and help you succeed!
